A Ross's Gull at Exeter in May! Weird - however it doesn't look like it's going to go far looking at the wear on its flight feathers.

25 May 2014

A Black-winged Stilt at Meare Heath was showing well, except that everything here's always a little distant.

18 May 2014

A day spent butterflying with Wood White at Branscombe in the morning then Marsh Fritillary in the afternoon near Taunton. Good to see so many Marsh Fritillary at one site.

17 May 2014

Duke of Burgundy at Lower Buckland Wood. I particularly like the image of the underside!

10 May 2014

Pearl-bordered Fritillary was a new butterfly for me, I usually forget to go and look for early flyers each year and then it's too late. These were at Haldon Forest and they showed well in bad weather!

The Eastern Subalpine Warbler at Portland was usually quite distant, but once durring our visit it came fairly close. It certainly wasn't easy to photograph though, most of the time having its head buried in a bush or looking the wrong way! The final flight shot is included to show just how much white was in the tail.
