December 2008

What a difference a bit of sunshine makes. Pointed the camera at a couple of burds today. The Great Spotted Woodpecker (top) is a bit of a rarity in my garden, and here is a nice female feeding on my nuts. Below is a female Pochard at Apex.

Every time I get the camera out it turns grey and cloudy, hence this Hawfinch at Bruton does not look at smart in the photo as it really was - honest! I'd forgotton I'd taken the Stonechat image (lower) on the way back from Bruton, but thought it deserves uploading, even if a bit late.

At Brean Down this afternoon this smart male Black Redstart (top) was not an easy photographic subject, but the Kestrel (lower) was a bit easier. Neither made any easier by the gloomy, grey weather.

21 December 2008
A decent morning at Shapwick with the Great White Egret (top) and seven Whooper Swans (lower). Also present were 2 Otter, Water Pipit, Marsh Harrier, and with the six Cattle Egret nearby, not a bad haul!

14 December 2008
At last I managed a few photos - this Black-necked Grebe at Cheddar Reservoir briefly came close enough for a few shots whilst two other gave me the right run around.
